One of the easiest ways to increase your chances for success online is by having access to more women. Lucky for you this simply means going to where the women already are online.
There are thousands of dating sites today, and most of them completely suck.
In fact, some of those sites pay people to create fake profiles. They do this to make it appear like there are more women on the site than there really are, which could then influence your decision to become a paying member on their site.
However, there are a few sites on the internet crawling with real women. In the U.S. there are two websites that stand out amongst the thousands of others in terms of consistently attracting the most women.
The two websites I’m referring to are Match.com and PlentyOfFish.com, and they couldn’t be more different from one another.
Both of these websites are good in their own ways, but the most important thing they have going for them is they are both filled with beautiful women.
Match is kind of like the suburbs, safe but sometimes boring and predictable. Plenty of Fish is like downtown in a big city – exciting and a little dangerous. You could meet someone great or you could get stabbed. I’m just joking, so don’t get scared off yet.
Let’s talk about each website in more detail.
Match.com
At the time of this writing, Match is one of if not the largest dating site in the world with 1.35 million paying members, 15 million registered users and about $350 million in revenue (according to Wikipedia).
Match has been around for well over a decade and has spent millions of dollars advertising all over the place, including TV. Those big advertising dollars have attracted millions of single women looking to meet men.
Of course, there are a lot of guys too, but most of them can’t even get a single response, so they might as well be invisible.
Match is a paid site, meaning you have to pay to access all of the features, including sending and receiving emails, and seeing who has viewed your profile.
A six-month membership will cost you a little over $100, and with their “Six-Month Guarantee,” you can get six months for free as long as you comply with a few simple guidelines like emailing at least five women a month, and keeping your profile and pictures visible at all times.
This means you can get a year subscription on Match for a little over $100 (or less than $10 a month). That’s a bargain considering how many very attractive single women Match has wrangled up for you in one place.
Match can get expensive if you pay monthly. The six-month membership is a much better deal overall, especially with the six-month guarantee.
Match also has a few additional features you can add to your membership. Of course, they all cost more money. You don’t need the extra features to be successful on Match.
Match seems to attract more professional-type women that are more educated and independent, many of whom do not have kids (at least the women below 30). You’ll definitely find a lot of career girls on Match.
At face value it seems like many of the women on Match have their lives together, except for the man. Looks can be deceiving though. There are train wrecks on Match just like there are anywhere else, so be selective.
A lot of the women on this site have friends also using Match, or have friends who have met their boyfriends or husbands on there. This is good because these women are very open to meeting men online.
There are some downsides to Match. Non-paying members can’t send emails or even read the emails paying members send them. (Match does have a platinum feature for additional money where non-paying members can read and respond to platinum members’ emails. I have not tried this service yet.)
Another downside is Match can tend to be a little repetitive. Because so many of the women are career girls, they can morph into the same person, doing the same things, wearing the same kinds of clothes, and going to the same trendy bars and restaurants.
I’m generalizing here, but numerous guys I’ve talked to have expressed similar feelings about the women on Match. This might not be a downside for you though.
PlentyOfFish.com
If you don’t want to pay anything to get started on a dating site, Plenty of Fish is a great option.
It costs you absolutely nothing to use, other than you having to look past its somewhat ugly and clunky interface. That’s easy to stand though, considering how many beautiful women are on this site.
Plenty of Fish (POF) has been around since 2003 and started off as a one-man operation. They now have four employees and revenue of about $10 million annually (Wikipedia).
POF grew in popularity in Canada before making its way around the world and is still very popular in Canada today.
According to Wikipedia, there were 1.4 million unique users on POF in November of 2007, just in the United States.
Plenty of Fish has grown leaps and bounds since then, and has a better Alexa ranking than Match now. This means Plentyoffish.com is visited more often than Match.com.
Compared to Match, the women on Plenty of Fish seem to have less education. Plenty of Fish still has many educated women, but Match just has more.
The career drive of the women on POF doesn’t seem to be as fierce as the women on Match, which can be good. The women tend to be more feminine and seem to enjoy life more than their over-caffeinated competition on Match.
Many women on Plenty of Fish have kids, even the under-30 crowd. Depending on where you are in life, this can be good or bad.
Plenty of Fish also has a popular forum where many of its members congregate. Personally, I haven’t used the forums very much. I’m on Plenty of Fish to meet women, so spending hours on a forum doesn’t make it into my schedule.
Plenty of Fish has its downsides as well. The most obvious is the interface. It looks like something from 1999.
Most of the revenue on POF comes from advertisements. This means you’re going to see ads on nearly every page. The advertisements aren’t completely intrusive, but they’re always there.
If you’ve been wondering how this company has become so successful with only four employees, it’s because Plenty of Fish relies on volunteers to help out with tasks like sorting though pictures submitted by members.
This means customer service can be scant; however, you can get some help on the forums.
You’ll find warnings on POF about not giving people money. I find this amusing, but I’m sure there are some crazy stories about why this warning is necessary. Once you’ve been on the site a while it’s pretty easy to pick out the fake ads.
What About Social Networking Sites?
Facebook and MySpace both have tons of attractive single women, but I don’t try to pick up women on either site.
Why? Because social networking sites are somewhat different than “dating” sites.
Women on dating sites are definitely looking to meet and date men. They have raised their hands and said, “I’m single, so come and talk to me. I want to meet you.”
Lots of women on social networking sites are open to meeting men, but most of them aren’t as blatant about it as the women on dating sites.
That’s just one less barrier I have to get passed, which saves me a lot time.
You can still meet lots of women on social networking sites. If you want to try them in conjunction with dating sites, go for it, but still use the dating sites too.
Which Online Dating Site Is Best?
There isn’t a best site. Match and Plenty of Fish are both great online dating sites because they both have lots of attractive women looking for men.
Invest in a Match subscription (go for the six-month subscription) and give Plenty of Fish a try. See for yourself which works better for you and which women you like more. A lot of women are now using both sites.
I don’t recommend wasting your time or money using a bunch of other different dating sites. Match and Plenty of Fish already have millions of members and tens of thousands of attractive women in every major city. Go where the women are.
Start having success on these sites first. Then if you still want to, you can try other less proven dating sites. I’m guessing you’ll never have to though since you’ll never run out of beautiful women to meet and date on Match and Plenty of Fish.
